NextGen T-Shirts
I am a huge fan of Threadless. A website which allows users to submit designs for t-shirts. Users can score every submitted design and the t-shirts with the highest scores are then sold on the site. Some designs are truly outstanding for example this one.
But they have no chance against the new dynamic t-shirts developed by Phillips. They call the technology lumalive and can read more about it here. Take a look at the video and you can see why these t-shirts are so special.
Opportunities
Once in a while ideas pop up and suddenly you find yourself working on something really cool. Well, unfortunately I have not reached the second part, yet. But lets start at the beginning. Two days ago I stumbled upon this blog post where someone showed that he could switch the running application by smacking his Powerbook on the left or on the right.

Powerbooks have a motion sensor which protects the harddrive but as you can see it is useful for other things, too. Well, I do not have a Powerbook but my ThinkPad has a motion sensor as well. So I searched the internet for some code and found this blog entry. Two years ago this guy already wrote all the C# code you need if you want to built a similar feature for a ThinkPad. There is even a link in the comments which let you download a compiled version. I tried it and his demo worked perfectly. Unfortunately I have never programmed in C# before and don't have the time to build a prototype right now. But I am pretty sure that somebody will pick this up very soon and if not I will do it :)
IBM/Lenovo Notebook...
Before I went to Sydney I wanted to get myself a new notebook. My last notepad was a IBM R50 and I was very pleased with it so I decided to get a similar one, again. I ordered a Thinkpad R52 and when it finally arrived it looked like a great toy. Unfortunately after 30 minutes I discovered this:

As you can see the background lighting of the display is at the bottom of the display completely inconsistent. There are even two small waves. I called the IBM support and they told me that it "works as designed"!. I couldn't believe it. So I spoke with my online retailer and I got the same reaction. So I sent the laptop back to the online retailer and ordered another one. When I started it the display looked fine but after a while the same waves occurred! See the picture:

So I sent the laptop back to the online retailer, again. I still wanted to get a Thinkpad but this time I decided to buy it in a real store. Fortunately I found one and they had one Thinkpad available, right away. I checked the display and it was fine.

So if you also want to buy a Thinkpad than I strongly suggest that you take a closer at the display.
Microsoft Origami
Kyle posted this rather interesting video of a new kind of tablet PC from Microsoft. Check it out here. For me the most interesting part was when the guy had attached the keyboard to the device. It looks pretty cool. Some years ago I used a similar devise from a German company. In my opinion this kind of device demands some really innovative software. Otherwise it is just a tablet PC. We will see...
Music makes the world go round
have to admit I am a big music fan. I love to hear to all kinds of music, go to concerts, talk about my favourite songs. So during the last months I was a little bit disappointed because I wasn't able to discover new bands which I liked. Last week I finally was able to get some new favourites. A good friend of mine introduced me to Interpol and WOW they rock. Furthermore my favourite radio station played some songs from Bloc Party which are pretty cool, too. So if you are looking for new music be sure to check them out. Speaking of music I finally found the mp3 player which I will buy when it comes out next month. It's the iRiver H10 (20gb) the 5gb model looks great but I need a bigger capacity for my music collection. You can take a look at the 5gb version here.
