PotsBlitz
PotsBlitz is a program which is used for training dyslexic children. It is based on FlashWords. The idea behind FlashWords is simple. You show a kid a word for a short period of time and it then has to tell the teacher the word it saw. It can be used for a wide range of exercises one could be to train a certain reading strategy.

The development of this program was done in conjunction with my sister Christiane Ritter who has developed a training for dyslexic children for her phd thesis. For quite some she used an old dos based software for this kind of training which has some serious shortcomings.

Together we designed a new program completely dedicated to FlashWords. It elimates all the shortcomings of the old program and adds additional features. Here are two screenshots:

Key features

  • Allows you to create and edit lists with FlashWords. Lists are stored in a simple txt format which supports easy distribution of lists
  • Can show words in serial or random order
  • Enables you to fully configure the way words are displayed (background color, font, font size, font color, automatically highlight vowels in a certain color,...)
  • The possibility to show a "finished!" image after a specified amount of words.
  • Configure how long a word should be displayed (milliseconds)

In order to support research in this area we release the program free of charge. At the moment only a German version is available. On request I would be more than happy to offer an English version as well. If you are doing research with dyslexic children and need additional features, feel free to contact me and I will do my best to support you. I could even think about building customized versions for certain research areas.
